Lal Salaam, directed by Aishwarya Dhanush, performed quite disappointingly on its opening weekend at the Indian box office. Starring Rajinikanth, Vishnu Vishal, and Vikranth in key roles, the movie has shown neither any growth nor any sort of significant dip in its box-office performance so far. Check out Lal Salaam‘s 1st weekend collections.

The film was scheduled for a Pongal festival release, i.e., in January. But, due to multiple reasons, it was postponed to February 9. Despite the high pre-release buzz typically associated with the superstar’s film, Lal Salaam failed to garner theatre footfalls. This has affected the box office collections considerably.

Lal Salaam day-wise collections breakup

On its Day 1 (Friday), Lal Salaam made a business of 3.55 crore, with 3.25 crore from its Tamil version and 0.3 crore from Telugu. While it was expected that the collections might pick up on Day 2 (Saturday), it did not. The movie earned 3.25 crore on its 2nd day, with 3 crore from its Tamil version and 0.25 crore from Telugu. As per early estimates, Lal Salaam raked in 3 crore on Day 3 (Sunday), taking its total 3 days’ collections to 9.80 crore net India.

What affected Lal Salaam’s weekend collections?

While the film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, what majorly may have affected the film’s business was its canceled screenings. Various screenings of Lal Salaam were canceled in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on its opening day. The unexpected cancellation took everyone by surprise.

Lal Salaam made on a heavy budget

Lal Salaam is a thought-provoking social drama that delves into the intersection of cricket and religion. Set in a village, the film explores how a beloved and unifying sport can be used as a tool for political manipulation and division in India. Produced by Lyca Productions and distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies, the film is made on a budget of 80-90 crore. Unfortunately, given the current trends, it appears to be a challenging task for the movie to recuperate its financial investment.
