She embarked on her acting career at the age of 14, debuting in the film Repallelo Radha, alongside another newcomer, Dileep. She later appeared in the 2002 film Charlie Chaplin, sharing the screen with an ensemble cast including Prabhu Deva and Abhirami. The film, a comedy-drama directed by Sakthi Chidambaram, showcased her versatility. In addition to acting, Gayathri has also made a mark in the industry as a choreographer.
