Vivek Oberoi opened up about what he learnt from his heart breaks, especially in the early 2000s.

Actor Vivek Oberoi recently opened up about his past relationships and what each of them taught him. He revealed that he discovered that he had a “hero complex” that he couldn’t live up to and called some of his relationships toxic. He revealed that he indulged in flings after having his heart broken and recalled his rough patch, especially in the early 2000s due to his “public breakup”.

Speaking to Anas Boukhash, Vivek said, “Each serious relationship teaches you. It leaves you with something. The bad breakups, the really toxic relationships teach you your patterns. They teach you what you should stay away from. Like I discovered that some of us have a hero complex, where you come in like a knight in shining armour, and say, ‘I will take care of this for you’.”

He added, “It’s not easy to constantly be on this pedestal, and live up to the expectations that you’ve created for yourself. Then you make the other person used to, if they’re not manipulating you, to become used to expecting that of you. And now you can’t change. You can’t just say, ‘We’re equals, let’s carry the load together’, because that’s what makes a good, honest relationship. That’s what I learned from toxic relationships, it’s so important to break the pattern.” He revealed that after his heart breaks, he sought comfort in his mother’s advice.

Professionally, Vivek made his acting debut in 2002 with Ram Gopal Varma’s film Company. He faced his share of ups and downs in Bollywood. Recently, the actor has ventured into the OTT space and the South Indian film industry.

Vivek Oberoi will soon be seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Indian Police Force. The web series is a spinoff of filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s celebrated cop universe which includes films like Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi among others.
