Veteran Actress Jaya Prada In Trouble As UP Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Her

Jaya Prada, an esteemed film actress and ex-Member of Parliament, is facing legal issues as a court in Uttar Pradesh has summoned her to appear on November 17. The court is addressing a case related to the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. Additionally, the court has confirmed the continuation of a previously issued non-bailable warrant against her.
On November 8, Jaya Prada failed to appear before the court, as noted by prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari. Despite the previously issued non-bailable warrant, the court has decided to extend its validity and has scheduled a subsequent hearing on November 17.
The case is currently awaiting resolution in the MP-MLA court of Rampur. Jaya Prada, who ran as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Rampur, is implicated in inaugurating a road in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which was in effect at that time.
Starting her career at 14 in the Telugu film industry with a 3-minute song in Bhoomi Kosam (1976), Jaya Prada’s breakthrough came with Siri Siri Muvva (1976). This paved her way to Bollywood, where she made her debut in its Hindi remake, Sargam (1979) by K. Vishwanath. The film quickly propelled her to stardom, earning her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress, marking an early achievement in her cinematic journey.
Jaya Prada has shared the screen with renowned actors such as Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, and Rishi Kapoor. Yet, it was her pairing with Amitabh Bachchan that resonated most with the audience.
Jaya Prada entered politics in 1994 at the age of 32. Encouraged by the late NT Rama Rao, founder of the Telugu Desam Party, she quickly ascended within the party and secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh in 1996.
Her political journey took a turn when N. Chandrababu Naidu, NTR’s son-in-law, assumed leadership of the TDP. This shift led to internal strife within the party, resulting in Jaya Prada’s departure. Under Naidu’s leadership, she faced marginalization within the TDP and was prohibited from participating in party events.
The Samajwadi Party benefited from the TDP’s loss, warmly welcoming Jaya Prada after her departure. Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav played a pivotal role in embracing her into the political fold.
