English singer-songwriter and musician Paul McCartney and American rock band The Eagles recently teamed up for a heartfelt performance of The Beatles’ classic Let It Be at a tribute concert honouring the late Jimmy Buffett. The concert, titled Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett, was held approximately six months after Buffett’s passing in September 2023, drawing fans eager to celebrate his musical legacy.
Paul McCartney, reflecting on his personal connection with Buffett, also shared a touching anecdote about their time together on holiday. He recounted Buffett’s kindness in having a guitar custom-made for him, who had forgotten to bring his own. “I had the great pleasure of knowing Jimmy,” McCartney told the audience, as per media reports. “And like everyone else on the bill tonight has said, this is one great man,” he added.
McCartney took a moment to acknowledge Jane Slagsvol, Buffett’s wife, for her role in organising the tribute concert. The star-studded lineup included Dave Grohl, Zac Brown, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Chesney, Brandi Carlile and John Bon Jovi, all paying homage to Buffett’s musical legacy. The Coral Reefer Band, Buffett’s longtime backing band, also participated in the event.
However, the performance of Let It Be by McCartney and The Eagles was a total highlight of the evening, showing the timeless appeal of Buffett’s music.

Other notable performances of the evening included Dave Grohl’s rendition of Brown Eyed Girl and Sheryl Crow joining the Coral Reefer Band for a rendition of Fins. The concert concluded with a collective rendition of Buffett’s signature song, Margaritaville, bringing the audience together in celebration of his life and music.
Buffett, known for his tropical lifestyle and vibrant songwriting, inspired fans as a musician, performer, and business entrepreneur for five decades. He passed away on September 1, 2023, at the age of 76, reportedly after a long battle with skin cancer, reports Billboard. A statement on his website noted, “Jimmy passed away on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
Throughout his career, Buffett achieved significant success, with 13 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including seven top 40 hits and one top 10. He also had 40 entries on the Billboard 200 album chart.
The tribute concert was a fitting tribute to Jimmy Buffett, honouring his contributions to music and celebrating the joy he brought to fans worldwide.
