Not Madhuri Dixit, This Actress Was The First Choice For Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Anjaam

Rekha, the evergreen diva of Indian cinema, often graced the silver screens with her indomitable charm and acting prowess. She starred in several films in her acting career which proved to be a huge box office hit. It is worth noting that initially, even the makers of the film Anjaam (1994) planned to cast Rekha and Shah Rukh Khan as the leads. Rekha couldn’t join due to unexpected reasons. That is when Madhuri assumed the lead role. The film proved to be a flop at the box office. Directed by Rahul Rawail, the film revolves around the struggles of a woman against her obsessive lover and highlights issues of violence against women. Anjaam is an underrated gem that didn’t enjoy immediate success, but eventually gained a cult following. It’s among one of the rare films where Shah Rukh Khan plays a completely negative role.

An IMDB report reveals the film’s original title was Majnun Ka Junoon, but it was later changed. In the 1990s, Madhuri Dixit was a prominent superstar with a string of successful films like Tezaab, Dil, Parinda, Ram Lakhan, Beta, and Khalnayak. She had become the preferred choice for directors. At the same time, Rekha’s prominence in the industry was waning during that era.
