‘No Fixed Roles’: Naseeruddin Shah’s Mantra To Happy Married Life With Ratna Pathak Shah

Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah are one of the power couples of their times and have been going strong for decades. Naseeruddin Shah, who is known not to mince his words, has opened up about the key aspect of their happy relationship and long marriage. In a recent interview with a YouTube Channel, We Are Yuvaa, the veteran actor said that it is not that his wife is Rasmalai and she is capable of speaking harsh words if required.
Talking about how they met, the A Wednesday actor said that they did a play together when she was 17 years old. He mentioned that there was something in Ratna that he took a liking to her. As days went by, their friendship grew stronger and he realised that she is a very responsible and meticulous person and he is all over the place. ‘But we have found a balance,” he added.
He added that he believes their marriage has worked because neither of them had any fixed expectations from each other. “We didn’t assign fixed roles for each other. Although I told her that I didn’t know how to cook food immediately. But I offered to clean up and do the dishes. More or less, everything has been a surprise,” he added.
He also mentioned that he kept discovering new things about her qualities and hopes that Ratna Pathak Shah has also found some things in him, but the most important thing is that they have maintained their friendship.
The actor revealed that his family has always followed a patriarchal set-up and thus, he decided not to repeat the same mistake. “Khana lagao, paani laao, I never did all this, nor did I impose such a dynamic. We consult with each other about everything. I believe she is a more capable person than me,” he added.
Naseeruddin Shah was earlier married to Manara Sikri, and the former couple has a daughter, Heeba. However, things didn’t go well between them and they parted ways. Later, it was in 1982 Naseeruddin Shah got married to Ratna Pathak Shah. The couple has two sons, Imaad and Vivaan.
