Director Aishwarya Rajnikanth’s Lal Salaam has had a disappointing run at the box office. Despite featuring an extended cameo from her father, the legendary actor Rajnikanth, the film has failed to meet even the minimum expectations for a Rajini film. Read further to know Lal Salaam’s 5 days collections at the domestic box office.

Lal Salaam was released on February 9 and in its first five days, it has struggled to attract audiences. The movie earned 1.45 crore India net on its 1st Tuesday (including all languages).

The total amount collected so far stands at 12.95 crore, which is significantly lower than even the opening day earnings of most of Rajinikanth’s movies. The film made a business of 11.60 crore from its Tamil version and 1.35 crore from its Telugu version, thus taking its India gross total to 15.68 crore.

Lal Salaam’s overseas collections

Lal Salaam has managed to earn a respectable amount from the international market, which is an improvement compared to its domestic earnings. The movie managed to collect 7.32 crore from overseas collections, which is a decent achievement. When combined with its earnings in India, the movie’s worldwide collections stand at 23 crore.

What went wrong with Lal Salaam?

Despite the movie’s plotline and the presence of superstar Rajinikanth, the makers failed to create an impact on the audience. Perhaps due to the overuse of cliches? Rajini’s character, Moideen Bhai, too didn’t really turn out impactful.

The film received criticism for its overall lag, despite AR Rahman’s excellent compositions that received praise.

Rajnikanth’s next movie

Rajinikanth will return to the silver screen with Vettaiyan. Helmed by TJ Gnanavel, the movie will mark the reunion of Rajini and superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The also stars Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati. The cherry on top would be Anirudh Ravichander, who will compose the music for the film.
