Laapataa Ladies Box Office Collection Day 1: Opens On Expected Lines, To Grow Eventually!

Even though over half a dozen new films arrived this weekend, the only one that was expected to take some sort of an opening was Laapataa Ladies. Even though it stars rank newcomers and also has a rural theme to it, brand Aamir Khan meant that there was some sort of awareness at least that was created around it. As a result, it saw a reasonably decent release for itself, with at least one major screen reserved for it per multiplex.

That said, the film was always meant to be a word-of-mouth affair, and hence, a major number on the first day itself was ruled out. The expectation was that somehow it would find itself in the vicinity of 1 crore, and this is exactly what happened as it stretched its way towards the 1.02 crore mark. Considering the kind of box office scenario today when the films aren’t really taking a major opening, be it the big, medium, or small ones, and everything is boiling down to how audiences are giving it a nod of approval post-release, this too is following suit.

What the Kiran Rao-directed social dramedy could be looking forward to now is to jump huge on Saturday. Critical acclaim for the film is out and out positive, and ‘aam junta,’ which has watched it is saying positive things about it as well. As a result, ideally, the film would be looking at doubling up the Friday numbers on Saturday and repeating the feat on Sunday, too. Once that turns out to be the case, Laapataa Ladies can expect a reasonable weekend to be scored post, which holds during the weekdays, ideally, more than the Friday score, which would hold the key.
