Neelam Kothari was born in Hong Kong to a Gujarati Indian father Shishir Kothari and an Iranian mother Parveen Kothari. Director Ramesh Behl contacted Neelam while she was on vacation in Mumbai. She signed the 1984 film Jawaani with Tina Munim’s nephew Karan Shah after deciding to give acting a try. This marked her entry into films.
After this, she did hit films like Doodh Ka Karz, Ilzaam, Khudgarj and Hum Saath Saath Hain and became a well-known face in the industry. One of her music videos from the 90s Feeling Hot Hot Hot became very popular.
