Despite the new concept, Madame Web has been met with mixed reviews and suffered at the box office.

Dakota Johnson’s latest movie, Madame Web, has hit theatres and introduced a new realm in superhero films. It boasts an interesting cast, an excellent creative ambiance, and the makers added new characters and storylines to introduce Marvel fans to a new world. Despite the new concept, the movie has been met with mixed reviews and suffered at the box office. Madame Web released along with the musical biopic Bob Marley: One Love which is currently ruling the collections.

Madame Web, the superhero suspense thriller with Dakota Johnson as the lead, showcases the connection to Spider-Man. As per a Variety report, the film stands in second place with $17.6 million over the conventional weekend and $25.8 million over the six days from Valentine’s Day to President’s Day. Accordingly, the film debuted globally with $25.7 million in 61 markets.

On the other hand, Bob Marley: One Love dominated its box office debut, grossing $27.7 million over the usual weekend and $51 million for the six-day extended period.

Earlier, Dakota Johnson told The Wrap that when she accepted to be part of Madame Web, the screenplay was completely different. The actress revealed that the final draft that made it into the movie bore absolutely no resemblance to the original screenplay. She added that since the plot relied on moving across numerous versions of the past, present, and future thanks to Cassandra Webb’s clairvoyance abilities, the scenes proved difficult to perform during filming.

Talking about the difficulties while filming, the actress stated, “It added so many different camera set-ups, like triple the amount of work. It was very complex, and there were only minor differences between each version of the same scene, so it was like puzzle pieces, and really paying attention to what moment we’re in, and what angle we’re in, and continuity and things like that.”

Dakota Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, popularly known as Madame Web, in the Marvel movie. Cassandra, who was once a paramedic, develops psychic skills following a near-death experience, allowing her to perceive future occurrences. The plot also sees her passing on her telepathic skills to Julia Carpenter, played by Sydney Sweeney.

The cast also includes Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Adam Scott, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet. The film is directed by SJ Clarkson, known for her work on the award-winning series Succession.
