Veteran actor Chiranjeevi was among 132 people conferred with Padma awards, the government announced on Thursday i.e. on Republic Day’s eye. He has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.

What Do We Know About Chiranjeevi’s Early Life?

Chiranjeevi (Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad) was born in August 1955 in an Andhra Pradesh village. His father, Konidela Venkata Rao, was a constable. Since he was transferred regularly, Chiranjeevi spent most of his childhood in his native village with his grandparents. The South superstar was interested in acting ever since his school days and therefore, after graduating, he moved to Chennai and joined the Madras Film Institute.

Chiranjeevi Got Breakthrough With Sindhooram

Chiranjeevi made his acting debut with the 1978 movie Punadhirallu. However, he got his major breakthrough with Sindhooram in 1997. In his career of close to four decades, Chiranjeevi has worked in over 150 feature films in several languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada. Some of his popular films are – Rudra Veena, Indra, Tagore, Swayam Krushi, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Stalin and Gang Leader.

Chiranjeevi is now likely to return to Kannada cinema after 22 years. Reportedly, Kannada actor Darshan is working on an untitled movie with director Prem, which is supposed to start production in June this year. If reports are to be believed, Chiranjeevi will most likely be playing an extended cameo in this film. However, there is no official announcement regarding the movie as of now.

What Are The Other Awards Chiranjeevi Has Won?

For his contribution to the Indian Cinema, Chiranjeevi won three Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards, a Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and nine Filmfare Awards South. In 2006, he was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for his contributions to Indian cinema and was presented with an honorary doctorate from Andhra University.

Meanwhile, besides Chiranjeevi, actress Vyjayanthimala Bali has also been bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan 2024. She is one of the Indian Cinema’s finest actors who has worked in several films from the 1950s and 1960s, including Devdas, Naya Daur, Aasha, Sadhna, Gunga Jumna, Sangam and Jewel Thief.
