Arun Govil talks about Ram Mandir visit

Recently, in an interview, he confessed to having a challenging time securing lead roles in movies because of his portrayal of Lord Ram

Arun Govil, who is known for playing the iconic role of Lord Ram in the iconic television series Ramayan, has expressed disappointment after attending the grand inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Despite being a guest at the historic event, Arun Govil revealed that he did not have the opportunity to have a darshan at the newly constructed temple.

As reported by Bharat 24, Arun was asked about his reaction to the Ram Mandir and the actor said, “Sapna toh bhaiya poora ho gaya par mujhe darshan nahi hue. Main kuch nahi keh sakta iss samay (The dream has been fulfilled but I did not get to do ‘darshan’. I can’t say anything at the moment),” he said. Apart from him, many other celebrities were seen attending the event. Photos and videos are going viral from the event on social media.

As per Indian Express, after Ramayan, he found it difficult to get versatile roles as an actor. He was seen playing mythological roles in Luv Kush, Vishwamitra and Jai Veer Hanuman. In an interview, he confessed to having a challenging time securing lead roles in movies because of his portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramayan. He said that the response he got from Ramanand Sagar’s serial led to both good and bad things for him. According to him, he “got a lot of respect and honour”, but it distanced him from commercial movies. Filmmakers would tell him that the image of Lord Ram was so strong that they had to ponder upon what role to offer him.

On January 25, 1987, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was aired on television across India and took the nation by storm. This was before the cable TV’s entry in the market, so Ramayan was telecast on Doordarshan. It is to date one of the most revered series that left the viewers glued to their TV on Sundays. The show was headlined by Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia, who essayed the role of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita respectively.
