AR Rahman Says He Had Doubts About Working On Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan: ‘Why Am I Doing This Film?’

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman opened up on his initial doubts about working on Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan in a recent interview.
The release of Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn, Priyamani and Gajraj Rao, has created a lot of buzz already. Fans have been excited since it was announced, and the recent trailer launch has only added to that excitement. The film’s music, composed by AR Rahman, has also been well-received by the audience. However, the Oscar-winning composer opened up on his initial doubts about working on the project in a recent interview.
In an interview with Connect FM Canada, AR Rahman said that he wondered why he should be composing for the film at all. “When I first saw Maidaan, it didn’t have the CGI. My question was, why am I doing this film? I have done a sports film already, so what am I going to do new in it? Then, when I saw it again, I thought there was a lot we could do, like bring the humanity, the romance, the powerful female character out,” he said.
He also said that success depends on your mindset and approach, much like in life. With the song completed, he praised director Amit Sharma’s meticulous work, who dedicates attention to every detail, whether it’s a frame or a sound. Sharma has spent four years on this film and had earlier said that he thinks it’s important for people to learn about the man’s contributions to the country.
Ajay Devgn is gearing up to portray the role of a football coach in the film. The story centers around Syed Abdul Rahim’s relentless efforts to elevate Indian football on the global platform by assembling and training a team, including young players from impoverished areas. Under Syed Abdul Rahim’s leadership, Indian football team won the Asian games in 1951 and 1962. The Indian football team had players like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco and Arun Ghosh.
