Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan tied the knot on April 20, 2007. They have a daughter together, named Aaradhya.
Aishwarya Rai has been married to Abhishek Bachchan for about 16 years. The couple’s wedding was one of the most high-profile celebrity weddings in Bollywood. Abhishek, the son of Hindi cinema icon Amitabh Bachchan and veteran actress Jaya Bachchan, and Aishwarya fell in love on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s Guru, which was released in January 2007. The couple tied the knot in the presence of their families three months later. And, Aishwarya Rai became Aishwarya Rai Bachchan aka “Bachchan Bahu”.
During a 2008 interview with NDTV, Aishwarya was asked if she ever felt that the Bachchan surname in some way subsumed the “Aishwarya Rai” part of her in terms of her identity. Talking about the same, the actress said, “This question is a bit too drawn out there to have any kind of relevance in my life. Even all these terms get coined for glorious reading. It just makes it sound a little more dramatic than it is in terms of ‘Bachchan Bahu’. I’m just a regular girl. I’m Aishwarya Rai who got married to Abhishek Bachchan. So, that’s my name today.”
Aishwarya continued, “It’s all perception and I guess it kind of generates the talk because of the fact that the members of this family have definitely been in the public eye so I guess thereby the relevance of the surname. People within the family have earned the recognition on the public platform and deservedly so the name is given its place and people work hard to retain its dignity and that’s the functioning of a family. But we are a family. Abhishek and I loved each other and we got our parents blessings and we got married. We weren’t looking to make a statement.”
Aishwarya recently stole the show as she walked the ramp for L’Oréal Paris during the Paris Fashion Week. The actress looked absolutely stunning as she strutted the runway in a golden cape gown and debuted her blonde highlights. Aishwarya was among several celebrities including Kendall Jenner, Eva Longoria, Helen Mirren, Viola Davis and more, who walked the ramp for the brand’s show titled Walk Your Worth.
