A Selection of Forgettable Bollywood Movies
The Indian film industry, Bollywood, is arguably better these days than it ever has been before. Thanks to a wide variety of productions, fans of the genre are filled with options to watch as Bollywood continues to grow and entertain mass audiences around the world.
Although Bollywood’s overall offering is impressive in 2023, it doesn’t mean that we’re always exposed to masterpieces. In fact, in the same way, there have been thousands of movies that haven’t gone down well in Hollywood, there have also been some Bollywood productions that have failed to garner much interest and have gone on to receive poor reviews in the process. Let’s take a look at just some of them below.
Humshakals
Comedy productions are obviously created in the hope of providing plenty of laughter and being an enjoyable overall production. Humshakals certainly failed to nail this particularly important aspect after serving up bad humour and an all-around dull watch. The story of three people who each have a doppelgänger with the same name, for a comedy movie, Humshakals didn’t offer any comical value whatsoever.
Desh Drohi
If you haven’t seen Desh Drohi, then don’t worry, you really don’t have to. Following the story of Raja who leaves his old life behind to take a job in the big city of Mumbai, the movie takes an unexpected turn as he ends up killing the brother of a major drug dealer before going on a killing spree and taking the lives of even more people. While this particular movie does indeed sound appealing, the way it was put together resulted in a painful watch. With a rating of 1.2 on IMDb, viewing audiences clearly agree.
Karzzzz
There are some people who might be potentially irked by this particular inclusion, but Karzzzz was an abysmal production that offered very little in terms of pleasure. In fact, it was nothing but discomfort throughout as the shocking attempt at highlighting the singer’s hallucinations looked terrible, while the plot was frankly ridiculous and failed to engage audiences. Astonishingly, some people actually rated Karzzzz, but with a rating of 2.3 on IMDb, it evidently wasn’t many.
Thugs of Hindostan
Despite Thugs of Hindostan having a few positives associated with it, overall, the movie was one to forget. While movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, books like Escape to Pirate Island, and games with a pirate theme like Boom Pirates work flawlessly, this pirate-filled production that is set in 19th-Century India definitely doesn’t. At the time of its release, the production promised so much given its powerful story about a rebellion against British rule. The actual end result, though, didn’t excite viewers, it bombed with critics, and it didn’t deliver the type of success the movie’s makers were hoping for.
Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag
A 2007 release, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag focusses on the story of two bodyguards who learn that the politician they’re responsible for taking care of is involved in a scandal that results in them taking a career move to Mumbai to work with a gangster. From there, chaos ensues and this solid enough plot sounds like it could be an engaging watch. It really isn’t, though. The acting was bad, certain scenes were frankly appalling to watch, and the end result was essentially a rushed and lazy attempt at creating what could have been a good movie.
Some other forgettable Bollywood movies include Himmatwala, Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Tees Maar Khan, Joy: The Real Love Story, The Legend of Drona, Love Story 2050, Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Mission Istaanbul: Darr Ke Aagey Jeet Hai!, Fight Club: Members Only, Me and Mrs. Khanna, One Night Stand, and Student of the Year.
