Konkona Sensharma recently revealed that while shooting for Netflix’s anthology film ‘Lust Stories 2’, they carefully rehearsed for all the sex scenes, captured each frame, and showed them to the actors for approval. She said that the footage was then deleted in front of them, a practice that Konkona believes should become standard in the film industry to ensure the actors’ comfort and consent. Konkona directed the segment ‘The Mirror’ in the 2023 anthology film ‘Lust Stories 2’. It stars Tilotama Shome, Amruta Subhash and Shrikant Yadav.
Recently, while speaking on The Durex Podcast with Abhay Deol, Konkona Sensharma recalled directing for Lust Stories 2. “When we were doing Lust Stories, there were seven sex positions, and we had a breakdown of all the sex scenes. Sex position one… sex position two…And with each of them, Amruta Subhash was so amazing, she said ‘Let’s rehearse it’. The DOP, me, Amruta, Shrikant- we all rehearsed it in my bedroom. We took the frames and then showed it to them- that this was what will be seen. Are you okay with it? And then deleted it in front of them. And I think it should be the standard practice.”
When asked what is the greatest advice she has ever received on doing an intimate scene, Konkona said, “So for acting in intimate scene. I haven’t personally heard it, but apparently one line that is very common and a lot of people use it. The male tells the female- ‘Please don’t be offended if I am aroused. And please don’t be offended if I’m not aroused.’”
Konkona’s segment ‘The Mirror’ in Lust Stories 2, starring Tillotama Shome and Amruta Subhash, is themed on voyeurism. It won raving reviews for its nuanced portrayal of lust from a female gaze. Konkona began her directorial journey with the critically acclaimed Vikrant Massey starrer A Death In The Gunj (2017).
