When Kannada Star Darshan Was Moved By His Singapore Fan’s Grand Gesture

The South film industry has been able to dominate the northern belt market efficiently in recent times. Films like KGF, Kantara and 777 Charlie have been released on a pan-India level, propelling the Kannada industry to greater heights. During that time, Kannada films were yet to receive a breakthrough and did not have big releases in other states, let alone countries. Even amid this, one star proved that fandom is not limited to a country or state. Many of Darshan’s movies are dubbed in Hindi, with satellite rights sold to movie channels. In 2012, Darshan appeared in the film Sangolli Rayanna, a biopic of the prominent 19th-century freedom fighter from the state of Karnataka. Darshan has slipped into the role of the revolutionary with ease and received a lot of accolades. The film was released only in Karnataka and did not have a pan-India release, let alone an international release.
Since the movie was released only in Karnataka, it attracted a die-hard fan of Darshan from Singapore. He flew to Karnataka to watch Sangolli Rayanna. The Singaporean citizen named Sebastian was a big fan of Darshan, whose films he used to see on video and TV. When he came to know that Darshan’s most awaited film Sangolli Rayanna would not be released in Singapore, he took a flight to Bangalore, watched the film in a theatre and flew back the same evening.
After returning back, Sebastian made a tweet about the same, which caught the attention of Darshan. He had profusely thanked him for his gesture and said he was honoured to have such a fan.
