US filmmaker Adam Ellick’s in-flight video goes viral.

US-based filmmaker Adam Ellick’s latest video from inside a flight after landing in India has sparked a debate on basic civic sense and gender bias. In the video, air passengers are seen standing on their seats to take their cabin baggage from the overhead bins despite a female flight attendant forbidding them from doing so through an in-flight announcement. However, they immediately take to their seats after the pilot steps in and makes the same announcement.

Ellick posted the video on his official Instagram handle, mocking the behaviour of Indian passengers inside a flight. “Classic landing in India”, he wrote, while sharing the video. “Textbook landing in India for 1st time,” were the opening lines on the video. Take a look:

The video posted by Adam Ellick has gone viral, amassing over a lakh views on Instagram. It has sparked mixed reactions from netizens, with most calling out the passengers’ “lack of civic sense”.

“Absolute embarrassment. Feel second hand embarrassment looking at this”, wrote a user on Instagram. Another posted, “All this to reach Baggage Belt 5sec earlier”. “The pilot should apply the brakes for a millisecond and then see the pileup in the aisles,” wrote a third user.

Another section of netizens claimed that such behaviour exists everywhere. “Have been to the US 13 times and have always found Americans doing the same atleast 8 to 10 times so please let’s not generalise a single incident,” observed an Instagram user. “It happens everywhere and I have proofs,” wrote another.

The video also sparked debates on feminism. A user noticed how passengers ignored instructions from a female cabin crew member, in contrast to their responsiveness to the male pilot. “Hard to ignore the fact that the magic male voice was immediately successful while multiple requests in the female voice went completely unheard. Being an Indian woman, I find this very unsettling,” posted a female Instagram user.
