However, what The Great Grand Superhero ultimately gets right is its sense of wonder. It understands that children don’t always need perfection; sometimes they just need a story that lets them believe something magical could exist around them. Maybe in their school, maybe in their neighbourhood, maybe inside their own home. Or maybe in their dada ji. And this is how cinema creates magic.

Overall, the film is a victory for director Manish Saini, and a lovely way for Jackie Shroff to introduce himself to younger audiences; especially given that he plays a toned-down, swagger-less version of himself. The Great Grand Superhero is a sincere film that should be supported in theatres. Perhaps a real-life 11-year-old may not appreciate this simplicity given the recent run of films. It then falls on us as adults to help them nurture their innocence, just like Deepu and his friends.

Shivanssh Chourghe impresses with his comic timing and gets some of the funniest scenes in the film. Prateik Smita Patil as the alien villain is menacing, though his role could have benefited from longer screen time. Sharat Saxena, as the boxer, delivers a strong performance, especially in the scenes where he mocks Jagdishchandra. Saharsh Shukla and Kumar Saurabh are on point as the quirky aliens. The Great Grand Superherois not just a kiddie film, but a wholesome family entertainer that adults will enjoy just as much, especially when watched with the family in a theatre.

On the whole, THE GREAT GRAND SUPERHERO is a well-intentioned, rare children’s film from Bollywood, driven by a novel plot and endearing performances from Jackie Shroff and the young actors. Unfortunately, its potential is pulled down by a disjointed script and puzzling moments. At the box office, it releases with limited buzz and would need a good word of mouth to attract its target audience.

The Great Grand Superhero: Aliens Ka Aagman may not reinvent the superhero genre, but it succeeds in being an enjoyable family entertainer. It is a pure entertainer that makes you clap, laugh, and gives out a strong message. With Jackie Shroff’s charming performance, heartfelt emotions and a message about family, courage and belief, the family fantasy drama makes for a fun watch, especially for kids and families. If you enjoy light-hearted fantasy adventures with emotional depth, this one deserves a chance.

At the same time, the film deserves credit for attempting something unusual in a space mostly filled with loud superhero spectacles. It’s simple treatment and old-school warmth occasionally remind viewers of family entertainers from another time. ‘The Great Grand Superhero’ remains a film that packs simple joys and pleasures of life. It is an uneven but harmless watch with a few charming moments buried under its confused storytelling.

Manish Saini’s The Great Grand Superhero is all about modest joys and simple pleasures. The Gujarati director’s first feature in Hindi after four films, including two aimed at children, is a good-natured and hilarious chronicle, steered by a bunch of utterly charming kids and a sporting senior actor.
