The Bhootnii Movie Review Neither Funny Nor Spooky

The Bhootnii is a horror-comedy that tries hard to be funny and spooky, but ends up being neither. From the start, the film seems desperate to make the audience laugh. Almost every line is written like a punchline, but the jokes are flat and fall painfully short. The first half is especially hard to sit through, with awkward humor that feels forced and unoriginal. While things get a bit better in the second half, even the improved jokes can only be called mildly amusing at best.

Mouni Roy plays the ghost Mohabbat with all the seriousness she can manage, but she’s given very little to work with. There is one fun nod to her role in Naagin, but after that, her character becomes a mess. She’s meant to bring in the horror element, but the weak VFX and over-the-top makeup turn her into more of a cartoon than a scary ghost. Mouni does her best with the material, but the Bhootnii just isn’t scary or funny enough to leave a mark.

The Bhootnii Movie Review:

Sanjay Dutt as the Ghostbuster Baba should have been a total blast. His character could have leaned into the silliness and become the highlight of the film. But sadly, he is stuck with dull writing and half-baked scenes. What could have been a fun, over-the-top performance is wasted by mediocre writing.

Sunny Singh as Shantanu looks confused through most of the film, and not in a charming way. His performance lacks energy and direction. BeYouNick delivers some of the cringiest jokes in the film. They’re loud, overdone, and not funny at all. Palak Tiwari looks great on screen, but her role doesn’t give her much to do. Her chemistry with Sunny Singh is weak and their romantic track is kind of lackluster.

Bhootnii had a fun concept and a great chance to be a silly, spooky entertainer, but poor writing, bad jokes, and weak visuals turn it into a disappointment.

Final verdict: The only scary thing about Bhootnii is how bad it is.
