Director AanandLRai, known for exploring complex human relationships, returns to his favourite turf – love, longing, and the chaos it unleashes – but with far greater intensity this time. What stands out is Rai’s subtlety… He refuses to go overdramatic or loud, a mark of a mature storyteller… Even in the tense, conflict-driven sequences, he stays restrained and never crosses the line. That said, a tighter narrative would’ve enhanced the overall impact… The screenplay – particularly in the final act – could’ve been simpler and more concise, as it tends to feel stretched… A more impactful culmination was the need of the hour.

Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav have written a love story with many layers. It is a complex and, in a way, a twisted love story which keeps the viewers engaged and involved. There are plenty of turns and twists in the story because of which the audience keep guessing what’s next in store for them. On the whole, Tere Ishk Mein is a definite box-office winner. It may even prove to be a hit.

The film hems and haws its way through a story of obsession that is thwarted by a mammoth class and temperament divide between a hot-headed Delhi University student leader who needs little provocation to resort to force and a senior bureaucrat’s studious daughter working on a thesis on violence and how it is possible to curb it if one tries hard enough. This is “an A.R. Rahman musical”. That’s a small mercy. While the score works, little else in the film is music. Tere Ishk Mein is a love story that is an advertisement that love can do without.

Overall, Tere Ishk Mein is far from flawless. Yet when it hits, it hits like a storm. The film bleeds emotion. By the time the final moments arrive, you realise this is not a love story that asks for your approval; it demands your surrender. In bits and pieces.

So being soft and gentle is not manly? Tell me again, why are we glorifying this ‘aggressive, angry, alpha’ man? Can this be our hero in 2025? Or we now, post Animal and Saiyyara, are decisively back in the dark ages?

Tere Ishq Mein is exactly the kind of film that Tier-2 and Tier-3 audiences will absolutely devour — high on drama, louder on emotions, and structured around the toxic love that Bollywood keeps romanticising post Kabir Singh and Animal, and more recently Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. But morally, thematically, and emotionally, it collapses. It leaves you triggered, unsettled, and slightly annoyed that in 2025, we are still watching stories that glorify dangerous men and equally dangerous relationships.

On the whole, TERE ISHK MEIN is an intense love saga, backed by memorable dramatic moments and strong performances by Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. But the overlong runtime and a weak second half severely curb its impact. At the box office, it is poised for a double-digit opening.

Some dialogues sound unnatural and try too hard to feel dramatic, which makes them stand out for the wrong reasons. On the positive side, the emotionally charged scenes between Dhanush and Kriti do create a few powerful moments. A.R. Rahman’s music adds soul to the film, with a few melodious tracks that linger after the film ends. In the end, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ remains a partly engaging but uneven film that relies more on performances than storytelling. Dhanush and Kriti Sanon give it emotional strength, but the weak writing, excessive length, and lack of depth hold it back. The film shows flashes of brilliance but never fully rises to its potential.

Aanand L Rai’s direction is engaging and entertaining, but it lacks depth. It is time he realises that audiences today will not accept whatever is given to them. Both the lead characters are complex, but the story is not good enough to hold on to the attention of the audiences. Especially, in the second-half the film slips badly and appears like a never-ending rant of a fight between the haves and have-nots.

Mukti’s thesis that violence can be permanently driven out of a brutal human with jobless, violence-prone Shankar as a test case, lays a promisingly different foundation. Except that it goes horribly wrong. It’s different. It’s combustible. It’s lengthy. It’s complicated. If all these elements work for you, do watch it for something that’s definitely not routine.
