Suriya 47 update.
When Suriya teams up with a director fresh off a blockbuster, fans are bound to get curious. And now, there’s a fresh update on the much-talked-about Suriya 47, with filmmaker Jithu Madhavan offering clarity on what audiences can expect.
Suriya is currently juggling the shoots of his upcoming projects, tentatively titled Suriya 46 and Suriya 47. Amid the ongoing production, Madhavan addressed speculation around the tone and style of Suriya 47, especially whether it would lean towards a Malayalam flavour.
Speaking to reporters during a recent airport interaction, the director confirmed that the film will firmly cater to Tamil audiences. “The shoot for Suriya 47 is ongoing, and updates will be made officially. It will be a proper Tamil film.”
The project marks Suriya’s collaboration with Madhavan, best known for directing Aavesham. The upcoming entertainer is described as an action-comedy, with Suriya reportedly playing an eccentric police officer who leads a team of equally unconventional members. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they are assigned a serious case, forming the core of the narrative.
The film will feature Nazriya Nazim as the female lead, while Naslen is expected to play a pivotal role. Music for the film will be composed by Sushin Shyam, marking his debut in Tamil cinema.
During the same interaction, Madhavan was also asked about a possible sequel to Aavesham, which starred Fahadh Faasil. Responding to queries about Aavesham 2, the director clarified that no official decision has been taken yet and discussions are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Suriya’s slate remains packed. He is set to headline Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. The fantasy action film stars Trisha Krishnan as the co-lead and reportedly revolves around a lawyer who becomes possessed by a deity and fights injustice. The film also features Indrans, Natty Subramaniiam, Swasika, Sshivada and Anagha Maya Ravi in key roles. While an official release date is yet to be announced, the project is expected to arrive in theatres in April 2026.
In addition, Suriya is working on Suriya 46 with director Venky Atluri. The film stars Mamitha Baiju and Raveena Tandon as co-leads and is likely to release in July or August this year, following Karuppu.
