Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, renowned sitar player and music composer, has now postponed his Indore concert, scheduled for today, May 9, as a part of his ongoing Sitar for Mental Health India tour. The decision has been made due to the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The organisers will be announcing a new date for the concert soon.
Taking to Instagram, Rishab shared a selfie on his stories and wrote, “Hey there, due to recent events in India and considering all safety measures, the event originally scheduled for 9th May in Indore has been postponed. I truly appreciate your patience, support, and understanding during this time.”
“We are working closely with the concerned authorities to finalise a new date, which will be announced soon. All existing tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date. Contact @districtupdates for Updates. Warm regards, Team Sitar for Mental Health,” he added.
The 10-city tour, produced by Team Innovation and District by Zomato, kicked off on April 6 with a grand show in the National capital, followed by Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Hyderabad.
Apart from Indore, Rishab has two more shows lined up as part of his ongoing tour – Chandigarh (May 11) and Kolkata (May 18).
Looking at the situation near Punjab and other parts of North India, the Chandigarh concert is also likely to be postponed to a new date. However, an official confirmation is still awaited.
In a display of national unity, various concerts and public events have been cancelled, and Pakistani content has been deleted from prominent platforms in India. These include: RajKummar Rao and Wamiq Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf, initially set for a Friday theatrical release, will now premiere digitally on Prime Video; one-week IPL 2025 suspension; Salman Khan’s UK tour postponed; Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life audio launch postponed and others.
Coming back to Rishab, he is a scion of the legendary Rikhi Ram musical instrument dynasty. He began playing sitar at the young age of 10 and later became the last disciple of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar. His remarkable talent has led to historic performances, like the White House Diwali Celebration 2022 and the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, among others. He has also been recognised by the United Nations for his contributions to mental health awareness through music.
