Given that heist films are a dime a dozen, the least one can expect when you’ve got these two leads, fully capable of generating fizz, is to give us flash and pizazz and non-stop thrills, because that’s what the best high-stakes, high-on-adrenaline ‘heere-ki-chori’ films are about.But this film is so lazily constructed that it doesn’t even bother thinking of a new or even a new-ish title.

Lazy dialogues and casual racism further make the film a bitter experience. At its worst, it could have been all style and no meat, but it doesn’t qualify to be that either. The film fails to do the bare minimum for the audience, let alone provide a 100 per cent immersive, entertaining experience.

Forget smarts or cheek, there’s little novelty to be found in Jewel Thief’s juvenile script, barring its now free usage of the F-word to make it sound all hip and adult. Except India’s OTT original film scene is nowhere close to coming-of-age.Truth be told, the vault is pretty much empty in Jewel Thief and Saif-Jaideep’s momentary banter is its only source of sparkle.

Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, Jewel Thief is a blend of high-octane action and surreal flair. Deep in my mind, I also felt that this could have been a theatrical release just for the look of it. But there must have been solid reasons to release it on the digital platform especially in a time when there are so many uncertainties of box-office success. I also strongly believe that the movie faltered because the screenplay chokes.
