Kamala Khan has a promising journey ahead.

Iman Vellani contemplates the potential future of her character, Kamala Khan, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Iman Vellani, the 21-year-old actress has portrayed the titular character in the miniseries Ms. Marvel and is currently the talk of Tinseltown after her appearance in the recently resealed The Marvels. She reflects on the future of Kamala Khan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following the impactful events of The Marvels. The film not only shapes the broader MCU trajectory but also leaves a lasting impression on its central characters. Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, embarks on a genuine superhero adventure. To those who have watched the film, it is evident that Kamala’s journey in the MCU will take a different direction, with the hope that she will assume a pivotal role in the franchise.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter after The Marvels’ release, Iman Vellani shares insights into Kamala’s evolving narrative post her interactions with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau.

Vellani expresses that her character, Kamala Khan is not going to put people on a pedestal as much. “Kamala and I are on a very similar journey. I’ve gotten a lot better at not holding celebrities to the highest standard possible. They’re still human. They still put on pants just like we do. So I think Kamala is going through the same thing of just humanizing the people that she loves and realizing that they’re not picture perfect, Carol especially.”

She further says, “Carol is not a great leader. She’s faced trauma and learned to suppress emotions, struggling to be vulnerable with others and in a team. On the contrary, Kamala, who yearns for a team, is emotionally intelligent and mature among the three Marvels. She reads people well, and others could learn from her.”

The Ms Marvel TV show portrayed Kamala’s intense admiration for heroes, notably Carol. However, this dynamic undergoes a significant shift, providing Kamala with the opportunity to develop her identity as a superhero.

In The Marvels, released on November 10th, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) reclaims her identity and seeks revenge on the Supreme Intelligence, inadvertently destabilizing the universe. Duties lead her through a wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, intertwining her powers with Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Carol’s estranged niece, S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). This unlikely trio must collaborate to save the universe as The Marvels, featuring returning franchise actors and new additions.

Produced by Marvel Studios and directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels boasts a script by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.
