EXCLUSIVE: “I Never Let Riteish Pay The Bill For Everything” – Genelia Deshmukh
When you think of Bollywood’s sweetest couples, Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh are always high on that list. They’ve been together forever, still laugh at each other’s jokes, and continue to be couple goals for fans.
EXCLUSIVE: “I Never Let Riteish Pay The Bill For Everything” – Genelia Deshmukh

But their journey wasn’t all rosy from the beginning, and Genelia recently shared some refreshing and honest truths about their love story in an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood. She spoke about what it was like falling for someone like Riteish, who came from a powerful political family and had a very different background from her own.
“Riteish and I dated for 10 years. Marriage was never part of the plan. Even during our courtship, Riteish would say, ‘I don’t know where this is heading.’ And I would tell him, ‘I don’t think I know your world well enough. I feel we’ll have issues because of that,’” she said candidly.
It’s something so many people go through. That feeling of, Am I really a part of this world? But what makes their story special is what they discovered along the way. “But then we realized everything else is secondary. If you can’t go to sleep without sharing your day with someone, it means that person is truly yours,” she added.
That one line? Straight to the heart.
Genelia also busted the age-old myth that girls always want guys to spend on them. She said she’s always worked and always been super independent.
“I’ve always worked, and I’ve always shared the bill with Riteish. I never let him pay for everything. Even today, I pay once, he pays once. It’s never about the boy always paying or the girl always paying during courtship.”
“He Would Buy Me Really Expensive Gifts, So I’d Tell Him No Gifts Next Year” – Genelia
This strong sense of equality in their relationship shows just how grounded and modern Genelia is. She shared how she used to be particular about not giving people any reason to doubt her intentions.
“I was especially particular because I felt people would judge me. I remember he used to buy me really nice, expensive gifts, and I would tell him, ‘Okay, now that you’ve bought this, next year you can’t get me anything.’”
From uncertain beginnings to being one of the strongest couples in the industry today, their story is a reminder that true love doesn’t care about status or background. It just needs trust, patience, and a little bit of madness.
