Border 2 will feature a powerful revival of the iconic song Sandese Aate Hai, now sung by Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh.
After the historic box office success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol is now gearing up to revive another iconic patriotic saga — Border. The long-anticipated sequel, Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, has officially gone on floors with an ensemble cast that includes Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh. Touted as “India’s Biggest War Film,” the movie is targeting a grand Republic Day 2026 release, and the scale just got even more massive.
According to Pinkvilla, producers Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta have acquired the rights to the cult classic song “Sandese Aate Hai” from the original Border (1997), reportedly for over ₹10 crore — the highest ever paid to license a Hindi film song. A source revealed, “Sandese Aate Hai is the soul of Border, and Bhushan Kumar wanted to ensure the new version carried that same emotional weight. It’s not just a remake, it’s a tribute to the Indian Armed Forces.”
The revamped version — Sandese Aate Hai 2.0 — will be a blend of nostalgia and modern sound design. The original track, sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, will now feature Nigam again, this time joined by Arijit Singh. “The song will showcase the emotional and personal battles of soldiers, and will be picturised on Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Diljit Dosanjh,” the insider added.
The film is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan War and continues JP Dutta’s legacy of showcasing war with emotional depth and nationalistic fervour. The makers are currently deep into production and aim to wrap by August 2025. With such a stellar cast, iconic music revival, and epic storytelling ambitions, Border 2 is shaping up to be not just a sequel — but a full-scale cinematic event.
