Actor Ashish Kapoor has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after being accused of rape. The 24-year-old complainant first alleged gang rape but later named Kapoor alone.

Ashish Kapoor was arrested in Pune for alleged rape.
Actor Ashish Kapoor’s legal troubles have deepened as a Delhi court sent him to judicial custody for two weeks. Kapoor, who was arrested last week in Pune, is facing serious allegations after a woman accused him of rape following a party incident. The case has now moved from initial police questioning to a longer custodial stint, keeping him in Tis Hazari Jail until further orders.
Custody Decision In Court
On Saturday, Kapoor was produced before Link Judicial Magistrate First Class Payal Singhal at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court. After four days of police custody, the court placed him under 14 days of judicial custody.
He had been arrested on 2 September in Pune after a complaint filed by a 24-year-old woman. The FIR, lodged on 11 August, included charges of rape, gang rape and causing hurt.
Complaint And Changing Allegations
The woman alleged she was invited to a party in Kapoor’s neighbourhood, where her drink was spiked. She claimed she lost consciousness, was taken to a washroom and sexually assaulted.
Police said her first statement named multiple people, including the party host and unidentified men. She also alleged a woman physically attacked her, and the incident was filmed to blackmail her. Later, she revised her statement, saying Kapoor alone raped her. Officials confirmed the case would shift from gang rape to rape.
Custody Battle And Defence Arguments
Delhi Police earlier sought five days of custody to recover Kapoor’s mobile phone, conduct a potency test and examine co-accused. On 3 September, the court granted four days of police custody and allowed the potency test.
During the hearing, Kapoor’s defence team – advocates Deepak Sharma, Rajan Oberoi and Somesh Oberoi – argued that the phone was not in Kapoor’s possession. Sharma told the court it was with co-accused Kapil Gupta and Ritu Gupta. He also pointed out that Kapil Gupta, a pilot, had already been granted anticipatory bail, making extended custody unnecessary.
