In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, popular singer Armaan Malik shared some honest thoughts about his musical journey and his family ties.

EXCLUSIVE: Armaan Malik Says, ‘What Amaal & I Have Done For Ourselves Is Different From Our Family’

While many people assume that all the Maliks in the music industry are one big close-knit group, Armaan revealed that this isn’t quite the case. Armaan and his brother Amaal Mallik have both made their names in the music world. But according to Armaan, they’ve done it on their own.

“Amaal and I’ve been able to carve out our own, very independent identity, separate from our Malik family,” he said.

“Anu Uncle and my dad had a huge career in music, but what Amaal and I have done for ourselves is totally different from our family. Even though we share the Malik surname, we’ve created our own world where people recognize us for our work, not because we’re someone’s nephew or son.”

Armaan Malik also said he auditioned for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as “just Armaan from Mumbai”. He wanted to be judged solely on his singing talent without benefiting from his family’s name or facing accusations of nepotism.

“I didn’t take advantage of any opportunities where people could say I got favors from someone or nepotism or anything like that,” he added. “I haven’t sung anything from my uncle (Anu Malik) till date. Also, it’s another thing that we don’t have very close relationships with him or his family.”

Instead of relying on family links, Armaan worked with some of the biggest names in the industry at a very young age. “I sang for Vishal Shekhar, Amit Trivedi, Shankar Ehsaan Loy—all these composers at the age of 11, even before I sang my first song for a family member. That family member is my brother, Amaal.”

Armaan’s honesty and humility shine through in his words. It’s clear that he and Amaal take great pride in building their careers based on talent and hard work, rather than connections.
