Arbaaz Khan has learnt to smile and greet the paparazzi post his second wedding. He accepts he’s making more noise for his personal life than professional.
Along with maintaining a strong social media game, giving into the paparazzi culture has also become a part and parcel of every actor’s life. Being captured by shutterbugs at airport, outside gyms, salons and lunch dates as actors go out and about in the city has inarguably added to their popularity and clout. And this is a lesson that Arbaaz Khan has learnt only in recent times, more particularly post his wedding with Sshura Khan.
Despite growing up in a film family and starting his career as an actor back in the nineties, he hasn’t been comfortable with getting clicked by photographers. But now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he reveals that his marriage to Sshura has made him more pleasant and genial around the paparazzi.
For the unversed, the duo got married on December 24, 2023 and made it official as they posed hand-in-hand for the paps outside their wedding venue. Talking about it, Arbaaz says, “I think, right now, I’m in the limelight more for personal reasons than professional. Sometimes certain things happen in our lives which get us a little more [attention].”
So, what made him prickly while getting clicked in the past, a phenomenon which is an inseparable part of an actor’s life? “This pap culture has boomed very recently. It wasn’t there even till 10-15 years ago. Initially, I was a little apprehensive of the paparazzi thinking that they would get hold of me while I’m in my personal space. I wouldn’t say that I was averse to them but I wasn’t affable either, unless I was having a good day,” he shares.
With public image becoming numero uno today thanks to social media that gives fans the chance to keep a tab on their favourite celebrities, Arbaaz has become more careful as to not send out an ‘arrogant’ body language while on camera. “Today, I’ve accepted the fact that the paparazzi is a part of the territory and it’s something that one can’t probably escape. I’ve realised that it’s better to embrace it and be nice to them,” he points out.
The ‘Dabangg’ actor further adds, “Irrespective of whether we like it or not, they’re going to be there. So, it’s better to project a more affable and nicer image than be very stand-offish that makes you appear rude, which you may not even intend to. It is better that such things don’t get conveyed.”
Looking at the silver lining of this fad and the good it can do to an actor’s career, he elaborates, “I would rather smile now, greet the paparazzi and give them a few moments. That will make them happy too as clicking us is their means of livelihood. We need to understand that if we get clicked by them, it will help build our own image and pump up our popularity. It’s better to look at it this way and move on. I don’t look forward to it but have learnt to accept it. And now that I’ve accepted it, I try to enjoy it as well.”
