The third week at the box office has brought some much-needed momentum for Jana Nayagan. After a relatively quiet Friday, the Thalapathy Vijay-led film picked up pace on Saturday, with audiences turning up in noticeably larger numbers across its shows. The H Vinoth directorial is now well into its third week of theatrical run and continues to add to its domestic and overseas tally.

According to Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 2.35 crore net in India on Day 17. This was a significant 135 percent jump over the Rs 1 crore it collected on Day 16.

The film was screened across 2,087 shows on Saturday. The Tamil version recorded an overall occupancy of 40.74 percent, with the numbers improving as the day progressed. Morning shows registered 23.42 percent occupancy, followed by 40.42 percent in the afternoon and 39.42 percent during evening shows. Night shows performed the best, recording 48.58 percent occupancy.

The Tamil version continued to account for the bulk of the day’s earnings, contributing Rs 2.20 crore to the India net. The Hindi version added another Rs 15 lakh.

With the Saturday business added, Jana Nayagan has now accumulated Rs 188.50 crore net in India. Its domestic gross collection currently stands at Rs 219.71 crore.

The film has also continued to add to its overseas earnings. On Day 17, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 25 lakh in overseas gross, taking its total overseas collection to Rs 93.15 crore.

Combining its domestic and international business, the film’s worldwide gross has now reached Rs 312.86 crore.

Recently, Jana Nayagan shows were disrupted in Bengaluru’s Mukunda theatre by members of a pro-Kannada group amid the protests related to the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. A video of the incident surfaced on social media in which protesters were seen tearing down posters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s film. Reportedly, the protesters forced the theatre owners to stop the show and created ruckus inside the movie hall.

For the unversed, Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has been caught in the middle of the ongoing Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Several theatres across Karnataka have cancelled screenings of the Tamil film amid protests by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations over the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Previously, Jana Nayagan shows were stopped at the city’s Urvashi Theatre following a police advisory. The theatre staff removed the film’s promotional material, while its scheduled shows were replaced by the Kannada film Karavali. Police personnel have also been deployed outside the theatre as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.reg
