Get ready for a 1980s-style masala entertainer… The focus is on fun, laughter, nostalgia, and larger-than-life entertainment – not logic or reasoning… Several jokes land effectively, though the post-interval portions feel stretched.WTTJ is aimed at the masses… Bollywood has largely forgotten how to create entertainers that connect with audiences beyond the metros – the heartland and mass pockets in particular… This one is for them.WTTJ is tailored for audiences who simply want to smile, laugh, and have a good time – logic be damned.

The film ends with plastering the screen with a single star from an unknown critic, haha, and an announcement of it having become a hit. Wishful thinking? Or brain-rot zindabad, because when nothing else around us is making sense, why should our brains have to do any work? But how much lower can your low hanging fruit go? Daler Mehndi’s big scene involves a bullet and a bum. Sigh. Me, I don’t have any problem with dimaag occasionally being turned into dahi when I’m at such movies, because that’s the ask. Just don’t bore me.

The film gives an unwieldy cast the kind of freedom that only a muddled, overstuffed screenplay can. The actors stop at nothing, hamming it up like there is no tomorrow. Welcome to the Jungle has no dearth of words, but the film can be summed up in just three words: jungle mein mangled.

Welcome To The Jungle works more than it doesn’t due to its self-awareness. It’s a film that fully commits to its idiocy. It stops at nothing. It halts at nothing. We may not take back anything. But a smile amid the time of gloom also works if you can’t entirely guffaw.

The biggest problem with Welcome to the Jungle isn’t that it’s stupid. Plenty of great comedies are gloriously stupid. The original Welcome certainly was. The difference is that beneath all the madness, there was writing. Here, there is mostly movement.

Basically, Welcome To The Jungle throws everything at the wall, right from meta humour, slapstick and nostalgia to action and gibberish, and somehow, enough of it sticks. There’s nothing that lies beneath the noise and it may not make sense, but then again, sense was never really the point. It works best when you surrender to its wild, logic-defying energy and simply go along for the ride.
